I just found out that the magazine Time Out Beirut had listed our event in AUB on their website: it was the conference held on the 10th of March about FAIR TRADE : OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES

In their section Around Town, they listed:

"AUB's Human Rights and Peace Club is hosting a conference today about fair trade. Discuss the importance of fair trade in Lebanon and help secure the rights of marginalized producers and workers in our country. Fair Trade Lebanon, a non-profit NGO, wants to offer a viable economic model to the farmers and workers and give you an idea of a day in the life of a worker in Lebanon."

Fair Trade Lebanon in the Netherlands

"Mike van Londen, a man who understands the reality of our country, has contacted us in the hope of collaboration and support.

He chose to share a genuine story that cannot but reinforce our cause; “Since 2000, I frequently travel to Lebanon and have fallen in love with this country, the nature, its people, its culture. I saw how relentless the Lebanese are in rebuilding their lives and their land. For years, I am a witness of the hard life of a farmer, my father in law.
He works very hard to make sure that he has a rich harvest, but unfortunately, he faces every year the unfair regional competition. That is why I decided to do something for the Lebanese disadvantaged. After long and close examination, I have chosen Fair Trade Lebanon as the organization to which I will give my undivided attention. I strongly believe that Fair Trade is the vehicle that will give Lebanese agriculture the support it needs in order to allow producers to live decently.”

Therefore, we at Fair Trade Lebanon decided to join efforts with Mike and work together on entering the Dutch market and distributing quality “Terroirs” products."

The entire press release is available in Dutch here.

Make trade fair

"Rich countries subsidize their farmers by $1 billion a day and export their surplus crops to poor countries which makes this harvest virtually worthless" (one of Oxfam fair trade clips).

Our brand and more...

Terroirs du Liban is more than a label, it is a vision...
It is about people who everyday choose to view Lebanon not with its many obstacles but with its natural beauty.

Terroirs du Liban is as simple as Lebanon; it is not too big, not too small, it stands out in its modern look and tastefully imbibes the mediterranean feel and warmth.
To be consumed with no moderation!

Market a product in an ocean of challenges..

Fair Trade Lebanon works with 12 partner cooperatives and 250 independent producers; the NGO has identified in each one of them a unique regional product. The team later launches discussions with its historic French importer Artisanat SEL in order to evaluate the demand and the potential of foreign markets.

So far, Artisanat SEL has been placing yearly orders (of around one or two containers per year) which have been keeping FTL going. Today, you may come across the products in France and Europe (view Artisanat SEL food catalogue), but also in Canada, in Montreal (Kif Kif store and other selective outlets) and soon in Edmonton.

Cool ideas come when you least expect them

All right so here it goes, we finally decided to open a show room in our office! Why not? I mean for starters, we will get to meet Fair Trade supporters and then we will start to hear some Lebanese feed back about these regional produces. So far we've only been officially exporting the product line. Soon enough we will launch a little campaign to advertise it and invite you all for a visit!

Stay tuned for more details and pictures!
